Silent growth in Google’s monolopy

Internet No Comments »

Google has alleged that Microsoft’s Windows Vista’s desktop searching is virtually impossible to be turned off and thus it adversely affects non Microsoft search index program’s capability. Microsoft has denied the allegation. The outcome of the case is awaited. The moot question here is if a business giant like Google is not entirely free from evil effects Microsoft’s monopoly, what would be the fate of small businesses?

The real protest is not against the quality of the product, but rather how it behaves. The problems with monopolistic approach of these companies gets compounded when they are able to rig the laws with impunity.

Linux and BSD - Why so segregated?

Operating Systems No Comments »

BSD is a version of Unix developed at University of California, Berkley. It is compatible for x86, AMD64, ULTRASPARC architectures and compatibility with some additional platforms is in advanced stage of development. It is known for some of its cutting edge features as advanced networking, security, compatibility which are not there even in some of the best commercial operating systems. Its features make it preferable to even commercial Unix workstations. Any one can contribute to BSD through a committer.

However, despite the large number of similarities between BSD and Linux, there are equally large numbers of differences. These differences have resulted into many deep seated disagreements. Principally the differences emerge from disagreement over development methodology.

Webmaster Tips No Comments »

NicheIf you are new to blogging , probably you don’t know that every niche’s earning is different. So the quest in your mind is to start with which topic ? You should remember that you would better write about topics that you know very well. But again this depends on what you are aiming. If you are good at your area, it will take time before you draw some serious attention. Be patient.

1 )Earn money from best earning niches. (MoneyComes First)

or

2) Write about something that you know about. (Real blogging)

As you can realize, I don’t aim at earning, I write about things that I enjoy. But you may want to target at earnings.

Do jobs in open source programming suck?

Programming 1 Comment »

Recent CNN Money survey pointed out interesting results that while expert users of .NET get higher initial salaries and hefty annual increments that can go up to 15%, open source programmers get only modest hike of just two percent. A debate has been raging in the IT community as to why do .NET programmers get better salary than the open source programmers.

The debate, intentionally or unintentionally, seems to be working in favor of Microsoft, who obviously has vested interest in promoting ASP.NET. RedHat, Zope, and IBM are known as excellent paymasters to open source programmers and scout for talented programmers from open source community.

Is your information safe with social networks?

Social No Comments »

Social networks in the form of Yahoo or MSN communities always existed. But today social networking has acquired altogether different connotation and size. MySpace is known to be first social network and today with 20 million users, it tops the pack of social networking sites.

Whether we like or dislike emergence of such networking sites, fact is we cannot wish it away. There is money to be made from such data mined, and this would not stop. Instead of being paranoid about the cyber crime in any form, we need to develop strengths to deal with it and tap huge possibilities of networked world.

So what’s special with LHC ‘ Large Hadron Collider ‘

Technology 2 Comments »

Here, we will define LHC by metrics, I’m sure you will be surprised.

  • 27 kilometres = circumference of the LHC.
  • 50 kilometres per hour = speed limit for physicists on site.
  • 32 minutes = time taken by a law-abiding physicist to circle the ring.
  • ~1 billion kilometres per hour (99.9999991% the speed of light) = maximum proton speed around the ring. (Can you imagine? it is nearly the light of speed)
  • One ten-thousandth of a second = time taken by proton to circle the ring.
  • 0.00000000047 grams = total mass of protons circulating in the LHC at any time.
  • 362 megajoules = collective energy of LHC’s protons at top speed.
  • 88,000 tonnes = total weight of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
  • 361 megajoules = energy of the USS Ronald Regan when cruising at 5.6 knots.
  • US$4.1 billion = cost of building the LHC.
  • US$4.5 billion = cost of the USS Ronald Regan.
  • ~9,000 cubic metres = total volume of the LHC’s major vacuum systems.
  • 4,650 cubic metres = interior volume of the Big Ben clock tower at Westminster.
  • 14 years = time taken to build LHC.
  • 13 years = time taken to build Big Ben.
  • ~6 million = number of DVDs needed to hold all of the data generated by the LHC.
  • 6.9 kilometres = height of 4 million DVDs stacked on top of each other.
  • 4.8 kilometres = height of Mount Blanc.
  • 0.75 grams = amount of hydrogen needed to fill a party balloon.
  • 0.000000002 grams = amount of hydrogen consumed each day by the LHC.
  • ~1 million years = time needed for the LHC to use one party balloon’s worth of hydrogen.
  • 10-13 atmospheres = vacuum of the LHC’s beamline.
  • 10-12 atmospheres = atmospheric pressure on the Moon.
  • 8.3 tesla = top field strength of each of the LHC’s 1232 superconducting dipole magnets.
  • 1 tesla = strength of a typical scrapyard electromagnet.

Google suggest is watching you

Internet No Comments »

suggest en

Google suggest is aimed to provide the relevant results instantly as you are typing. It is supported by Google toolbars and Google homepage. In most cases it is very useful, but lately Google explained that Google suggest sends information about your searches. Meaning that Google logs your ip along with your search. But according to Google, only %2 of the searches are logged in a random fashion.

This causes a privacy violation indeed. What could happen if the logs are captured by outside of Google? I don’t want to think. So as this situation made Google uncomfortable, and they decided to anonymize the logs within 24 hours, and this is expected to begin from the end of this month. But there is a more secure way, simply do not log user data :)

They say that this logs are useful to improve service qualities. I really believe in Google’s affords to provide the best possible service, but privacy of millions is more important.
